27/07/2010 - South West Success for Community Centre Appeal

A pledge to turn a disused barn into community centre in Shirehampton is celebrating after a £60,000 funding boost.

The Shirehampton Tithe Barn Appeal, run by St Mary’s Parochial Church Council, has received donations from three companies supporting its campaign to renovate the space for community use.

The donations included:

• £25,000 from Bristol-based charity the Anchor Society.
• £30,000 from the Clothworkers’ Foundation in London.
• £5,000 from Churngold Environmental Fund.

Vicar of St Mary’s, the Reverend Canon Christine Froude, said:

“The congregation of St Mary’s and the wider Shirehampton community have been working hard to raise money to turn our vision for the Tithe Barn into a reality.

“Now with such generous support from these three funds, we really feel like our work has been rewarded.”
