26/07/2010 - National Citizen Service Programme Seeks Participants

Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude opens youth volunteering scheme to applications from charities, businesses and voluntary groups.

The National Citizen Service scheme will offer young the opportunity to spend up to seven weeks volunteering after their GCSEs, carrying out a range of activities including residential schemes, community projects and physical events.

Prime Minister David Cameron launched the scheme saying:

“The good thing about national service was that it got people to work together. The idea behind this is the same. It’s about social mixing and community involvement.”

Cabinet Minister Mr Maude revealed the application process would in the coming weeks and take the form of a competitive tendering programme with successful applicants due to be announced in October.
